Power tools
Power tools came about in the late 1940’s, spurred by the
reconstruction of Europe and a growing number of consumers
in North America
Power tools today comprise a number of different tools, either
powered by electricity (cord/cordless), through pneumatics or
by gas engines
Typical power tools include drills, saws, sanders, grinders,
wrenches and hammers
The market is divided between consumer/Do-It-Yourself (DIY)
and professional customers
Power tools are used for heavy tasks by professionals in most
industries, e.g. the construction and manufacturing industry as
well as rescue workers and fire fighters
In the DIY segment power tools are generally used for home
improvement and gardening activities
